Can I say 'good nite' to my colleagues when leaving the office 5.30pm in the evening?
Yes, we can say 'Good night' although it is a little early. 'Good night' signals a parting.
'Good evening' is seen as a (formal) greeting and is often used in speeches and on television and the radio but is not usually used to greet friends and colleagues. We can avoid the problem by simply saying, 'Bye. See you tomorrow.'
